Grape Expectations - Touriga Nacional & Gewürztraminer
Join us in Manchester City Centre for this wine tasting which forms part of our "Grape Expectations II" course. Each month we will look at some of the world's most famous and loved Red and White grape varieties and taste the diverse selection of varied flavours and styles of wines these grapes produce. In September, Touriga Nacional & Gewürztraminer take centre stage.
The smell of Gewürztraminer is one of the most distinctive in the wine world, decadently aromatic, with no shortage of plush peachy fruit to back up the perfume. Some versions such as those for northern Italy are on the lighter crisper side, while others from Alsace can be heady, almost oily in texture and unashamedly sweet. Expect an assault on the nostrils but in a range of styles.
Touriga Nacional is arguably Portugal’s finest grape, and is used both by itself and in blends throughout the country for burly table wines and ports. But have you ever tried examples from Argentina? Or Australia?? Or even France??? We’ll track at least one down and try it alongside Portuguese versions.
On the night we will taste at least 6 wines accompanied by full tasting notes and some cheese and ham to nibble on.
Perfect for those who love wine and want to know more. A great gift idea too!
