Join us in Manchester City Centre for this wine tasting which forms part of our "Grape Expectations II" course. Each month we will look at some of the world's most famous and loved Red and White grape varieties and taste the diverse selection of varied flavours and styles of wines these grapes produce. In May we will be tasting Cabernet Franc & Furmint.
Furmint’s claim to be a world-class grape is almost entirely based on the wines produced in the Hungarian region of Tokaj. But what wines they are! The sweet wines are some of the finest and longest-lived in the world, and are enjoying a new lease of life following stagnation under the Communist regimes of the mid-20th century. We’ll try at least a couple of examples, but we’ll also sample one of the increasingly impressive dry wines that can be made from this fascinating grape.
Cabernet Franc is one of the parents of the more famous Cabernet Sauvignon, and the two often appear along with Merlot in blends in Bordeaux. If you want to find unblended versions, head first to the Loire Valley, and then to Mendoza in Argentina, where Cab Franc is becoming many producers’ favourite grape to offer as an alternative to Malbec. And don’t be surprised if the line-up includes a wine from South Africa too…
On the night we will taste at least 6 wines accompanied by full tasting notes and some cheese and ham to nibble on.
Perfect for those who love wine and want to know more. A great gift idea too!
