Postponed - Grape Expectations - Carignan & Albariño

Postponed - Grape Expectations - Carignan & Albariño

Coronavirus update

Due to the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, and particularly in the light of the government advice on March 16th regarding the need to avoid non-essential contact, we’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone all tastings that are taking place before the last week in April 2020.

If you have booking on this tasting, an email with your options has been sent to the person who made the original reservation. Any queries, please contact us. We are always happy to help at this difficult time.

Join us in Manchester City Centre for this wine tasting which forms part of our "Grape Expectations II" course. Each month we will look at some of the world's most famous and loved Red and White grape varieties and taste the diverse selection of varied flavours and styles of wines these grapes produce. In April we will be tasting Carignan and Albariño.

Carignan is planted widely in southern Europe, and while it is often thought of as something of a workhorse variety, it can with old vines and a little TLC produce some excellent wines. It’s often blended with Grenache, as in the wines of Priorat in Spain and Corbières in France, but it also brings some spice and freshness to many wines from Rioja. As a solo performer, some of the best wines can be found in places as far apart as Sardinia and Chile. Truly a rough diamond in the right hands.

There are few better summer wines than the Albariños of north west Spain, and their seafood-friendliness has encouraged producers in Argentina, California, New Zealand and several other countries to plant this Galician star. But what many wine lovers don’t realise is how well Albariño takes to a little oak and some bottle age. We’ll sample both young and more mature styles to show just how versatile the grape can be.

On the night we will taste at least 6 wines accompanied by full tasting notes and some cheese and ham to nibble on.

Perfect for those who love wine and want to know more. A great gift idea too!

This tasting takes place in the atmospheric Royal Exchange Theatre. We are delighted to offer those booking a 20% off drinks voucher which can be redeemed at The Rivals bar/restaurant.

This wine tasting would make the ideal gift for the wine lover in your life, and like all our events, if you book a place, we can send you a gift certificate. Click on the email link when you receive your automatic confirmation, request a voucher and we'll do the rest.

Or do you want to buy a gift but let them choose which tasting they want to go to? Just purchase a Manchester Wine School gift voucher to the value of your choice and we can send it to you via email or post; with lots of different events available they are sure to find something that interests them within the next few months.
