Grape Expectations - Cabernet Sauvignon / Muscat
Join us in Manchester City Centre for this wine tasting which forms part of our "Grape Expecations" course. Each month we will look at some of the world's most famous and loved Red and White grape varieties and taste the diverse selection of varied flavours and styles of wines these grapes produce. Showcasing some of our favourites. In March we will be tasting the hugely popular Cabernet Sauvignon and Muscat, the oldest domesticated grape, famed for its floral aromas.
Cabernet Sauvignon was recently reported to be the world's most widely planted grape varieties, it's certainly one of the world's most widely recognisable reds. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country and in such diverse climates as Canada's Okanagan Valley to Lebanon's Beqaa Valley. Who loves a Coonawarra Cab Sav? Or do you splash out on a bottle from the Napa Valley? Australia's Margaret River produces some fine wines not to mention Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. Perhaps it is most famous in Bordeaux wines where it is often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
I say Muscat, you say moscato but whatever you do, don't call the whole thing off! Perhaps most noted because they produce wines that actually smell and taste of Grapes this ancient family of vines have about as many names as homes around the world. Muscat vines tend to thrive in hot climates and the grapes come in many colours, from greenish yellow through pink to dark brown, but almost all of them produce wine that was white (at least when they are young). They have historically made rich, heady dessert wines, Rutherglen Muscat and the famous French classic Muscat de Beaumes de Venise being some of the most famous and desirable Muscat wines. Increasingly the grapes are made into dry(ish) table wines in the style of Muscat d'Alsace. Whatever the style this grape has a lot to offer.
On the night we will taste 6 wines accompanied by full tasting notes and some cheese and ham to nibble on.
