Twice the Price - Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec
"How much should I really be spending to get a decent bottle of wine?"
"Why is that wine so much more expensive than the others, if they all come from the same place/are made from the same grape?"
"Would I really be able to tell the difference if I splash out on a more expensive bottle, or should I just stick to my favourite which I know I like?"
Do any of these questions sound familiar? People are fascinated, sometimes confused, and certainly a little cynical when it comes to understanding the different prices of wine.
This special one off tasting, taking place in Manchester City Centre, will address this issue head-on, in the best way we know how- by tasting all of our wine BLIND without knowing the price. One wine will cost £5, one wine will cost £10 and one will cost at least £20. But here's the killer question- WILL YOU BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE? And equally importantly- will you actually prefer the most expensive one?
This fantastic, fun tasting falls perfectly between World Malbec Day (17th April) and International Sauvignon Blanc Day (4th May) What further excuse do you need to try some great examples of these world famous wines!
We will give you plenty of guidance along the way. Every wine is a unique story, so before tasting we'll go through an overview of the wine in question, learning what the main considerations are when it comes to costing it too. The real excitement however is in tasting; the opportunity to set aside prejudices that people might have once they know the cost of the wine, and just trust your own senses!
We will taste 6 wines on the evening and what better wines to challenge our senses, and preconceptions, than the supremely popular New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Argentinian Malbec. Up for debate will be:
The Sauvignon Blancs
- Wairau Cove - Tesco
- Graham Norton's Own - Majestic Wine
- Greywacke - Reserve Wines
- Wine Makers Selection – Sainsburys
- Alamos – Waitrose
- Zuccardi Q - Selfridges
Full tasting notes provided, and the tasting is accompanied by some cheese and cold meats, All for just £27.50
