Battle of the Grapes - the Red and White Wine Blind Tasting Challenge
Wines taste different depending where in the world they are made! This means that a Chardonnay from France will taste different to a Chardonnay from South Africa.
There is often a lot of uncertainty from consumers when buying French wine as the labels do not give much away in terms of the grape variety used to make the wine, rather they assume you will have the knowledge of grape varieties grown in that area of the country.
In this special blind tasting challenge in Manchester City Centre we will see how some of the classic French wines stand up against their New World counterparts. This 'taste off' will feature:
A beautiful Champagne vs a sparkling wine from a New World rival, South Africa
A classic Viognier from France vs Chile
A Grenache, Syrah, Mouverdre based red from the Côtes du Rhône vs a powerful alternative from South Africa or Australia
A quality French Pinot Noir vs a sumptuous New Zealand Pinot Noir
Tasting blind means you won't know which wine is which when you are comparing the varieties. It promises to be an intriguing and revealing evening of tasting with some excellent wines from each side of the Old World/New World divide.
Like all our evenings, full tasting notes, to take home, will be provided along with a small selection of cold meat, cheese and bread.
